Restricted, But Not Constrained: Financial Stewardship That Supports Strategy

June 26 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Restricted funding can be a lifeline—or a landmine. Many not-for-profits chase grants that end up creating more administrative burden than impact. Others unknowingly mismanage restricted contributions, exposing themselves to audit risks or compliance issues. And in the process, even well-meaning organizations can drift from their mission.

In this practical and strategic session, Rémi Straus, CPA, CA and, brings a unique perspective as a sustainability expert with deep experience in not-for-profit finance, funding models, and organizational growth.

Whether you’re new to managing restricted funds or looking to bring more coherence to your operations, you’ll leave with clear, actionable tools to build financial integrity and organizational resilience.

Because being accountable to your funders should never mean losing sight of your mission.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Align restricted funding opportunities with your strategic priorities, not just what’s available.
  • Avoid “make-work” projects that drain capacity or cause mission drift.
  • Track restricted contributions in a way that makes audit prep easy, not stressful.
  • Build systems that offer visibility across programs, funders, and time periods.
  • Spot and address tax complexities unique to not-for-profits and registered charities.
